Seventeen year-old
Britta Flannery is at ease only in the woods with her dagger and bow.
She spends her days tracking criminals alongside her father, the
legendary bounty hunter for the King of Malam—that is, until her father
is murdered. Now outcast and alone and having no rights to her father’s
land or inheritance, she seeks refuge where she feels most safe: the
Ever Woods. When Britta is caught poaching by the royal guard, instead
of facing the noose she is offered a deal: her freedom in exchange for
her father’s killer.
However, it’s not so simple.
The
alleged killer is none other than Cohen McKay, her father’s former
apprentice. The only friend she’s ever known. The boy she once loved who
broke her heart. She must go on a dangerous quest in a world of warring
kingdoms, mad kings, and dark magic to find the real killer. But Britta
wields more power than she knows. And soon she will learn what has
always made her different will make her a daunting and dangerous force.
I. Cant. Even.
I love this book.
Opening line:
"To survive these woods, a man has to be as strong as the trees, Papa had said."
More review later. After my heart has settled down.
Here goes:
This was a fun-can't-put-the-book-down read. So many great characters, fantastic worlds and thoughtful prose.
Britta is the main character. She's a hunter and tracker, trained by her father along with his apprentice, Cohen and disliked by the town folk. Her father is killed. Cohen runs away (after she tells him she's in love with him). Britta is left alone and basically kicked out of her home. She's determined to find her father's murderer, who just might be Cohen, and she's not afraid to go on her own because she's tough and stubborn. And the secrets she finds out along the way! Gah!
There are so many characters that add to this story!
The world that Britta lives in is alive and bright thanks to the writing of Ms. Summerill. The colors, the smells, the magic made me want a forest like the one in the book in my backyard.
A great debut novel by a talented writer!
Thanks for the early read, net galley!

4 books I can't wait to read this year and the books I am reading
Here is a quick list of books I can't wait to read (I know! I'm a little behind in my list-making):
A Torch Against the Night (An Amber in the Ashes #2)
by Sabaar Tahir
I can't wait to read this book! I gave the first book 5 stars. I really enjoyed the writing, the characters, the setting and the story.
The Girl From Everywhere
by Heidi Heilg
I got to read this one early thanks to netgalley (thank you!) and I loved it. Time-traveling pirate ship? Yes, please. Awesome setting where I felt like I was there? In Hawaii in the 1800's? Uh, yeah! Strong main, female character with a couple of good-looking guys. Of course! And!! They visited the terra-cotta soliders! People! This place is on my bucket list!
The only thing it lacked to me was a longer ending. Here is my review here.
Ever the Hunted
by Erin Summerill
I'm sooooooo excited to get this book! I want to caress it and smell it and lick it...NO I mean, read it. I can't wait to read and I have to wait until December! There is something wrong with this scenario. I have to wait months and months. But all the waiting should make the actual reading even sweeter, right?
Isn't the cover pretty?
Willowkeep
by Julie Daines
Another book I can't wait to read. Julie's books just keep getting better and better. What is the book about? Regency romance. 'Nuff said.
My TBR pile isn't getting any smaller. Here is a pic of my physical pile of books to read:

CLICKOLOGIE ~ Elevating Your Photography From Beginner To Pro by Erin Summerill

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I picked up this book and looked at all the pictures first, then started at the beginning to read the words. I couldn't stop reading. I don't remember the last time I wanted to read an instructional book from cover to cover. Erin hooked me from the very beginning. How could I put down this book with a definition like this:
Clickologie
2. The study of capturing life in photographic images that are so beautiful they could make the burliest grown man cry.
Excellent and FUN book about photography from the fundamentals to pro. Filled with vivid pictures, clear instructions and clever words, this book will teach anyone about shooting, posing and becoming the photographer they want to be.
I highly recommend this book if you want to take your photography to the next level.

Foto Friends Friday
Shout out to Erin Summerill, Jessie Humphries and Julie Donaldson.
Julie won a couple of Whitney awards.
Erin took hundreds of pictures.
Jessie rocked her two day book launch.
Amazing ladies, gifted women.
Did I mention fun and funny? No? Will, they are. Julie hates this pic and I don't blame her. When you are close to your due date and feeling huge and really, really hurting, it's hard to smile and laugh. She's a good sport and genuinely kind. Her acceptance speech is gracious and full of gratitude to a love Heavenly Father. Classy.
You know you're going to have a crazy time whenever you spend time with Summerill. From theme-coded outfits to crazy pictures and lots of laughs, Erin keeps me smiling. And bonus that she's a sweetie who loves her family and friends. We should see her books on the shelves in no time.
Jessie is the token Vegas friend. LOL. Long legs, shiny hair and kicking butt like nobody's business, she's hot. And not just in looks and brains. Her writing is hot. Read. Her. Book. It's hot. KILLING RUBY ROSE.
P.S. There is only one person who is prego in the above pic...
